
Karl von Blaas (1815-1894) was the patriarch of a family of Austrian painters. He studied at the Academies of Venice and of Rome, which at the time were cities within the Austrian Empire. His was a history and fresco painter of the late Biedermeier period, and a professor of the arts.
His son was Eugene von Blaas (1843-1931) who learned painting from his father and specialized in figure paintings and the life of Venetian fisher-folk.
