Earl MacPherson joined the staff of Brown and Bigelow the calendar publishers in 1942 and then went on to create his signature Artist's Sketch Pad Calendar in 1943. The drawings featured a main image and smaller sketches of the same model, showing the work that went into creating the main image including preliminary sketches and alternate views. In 1952 he created a similar calendar for Shaw-Barton titled Studio Secrets the Earl MacPherson Sketchbook for 1952. This one sold on the website Hake's Americana and Collectibles.
He was an accomplished photographer who often worked from his photographs of models. and example is shown at The Art of The Pin Up.
